Smart Fields Extend ehsAI Capabilities in Three Key Areas
by: Marcel Guevara
Thanks to its use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, the ehsAI platform is helping countless organizations in many different industries dramatically lessen the burden of the EHS compliance process. By automatically extracting all relevant data from massive and confusing regulation documents, ehsAI helps companies reduce errors and save significant amounts of time and money.
Now, ehsAI is making the process even easier with the introduction of three exciting new features to expand the current Smart Fields feature. These features can detect and extract critical information from documents, especially from sentences with requirements and recommendations. They intuitively dig deeper into the key data hiding in these documents and extract highly specific information around three common parameters. They are:
LIMITS
Smart Fields extract key information associated with any limit value included within requirements, such as those associated with emissions, effluents, discharge concentration, throughput, and other operational limits. In many instances, however, this information is hard to locate within the documents, often lurking in long tracts of text. The platform will separately extract, in three different categories, the relevant information associated with limits: the value, the unit of measurement, and the parameter (i.e., “50,” “ppm,” sulfur”). The data extracted with this new feature will facilitate the migration of regulatory information associated with operational limits.
Regulatory Reference
Another common form of content within the text of requirements documents – and another that is often difficult to extract manually – is that of regulatory references. This includes all citations, legal and administrative references. Smart Fields instantly identifies this type of text, eliminating the need for an individual to go through such documents looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. The platform does it for you, saving incalculable amounts of time and frustration, as well as ensuring that nothing gets missed. Additionally, this field captures not only regulatory references but other relevant information, such as standards and codes, among others. Extracting this information will allow users to easily link other regulatory requirements contained within their EHS software or protocols.
Equipment
Associate every requirement to an equipment, asset or unit is key to facilitate the implementation of your EHS compliance. With the introduction of the Smart Fields feature for equipment, you can easily extract from each requirement or recommendation the equipment to which the requirement applies to. The platform automatically identifies and extracts the type of equipment and/or the equipment, unit, or asset ID. This information is relevant to identify the applicability of requirements, as well as to assign each requirement to the specific procedures or areas of responsibility within an organization’s operational processes.
